Edible oils

Sutr

Sutr is Data Group’s cold-pressed range — mustard, groundnut, sesame, coconut, flaxseed, kalonji and almond oils, pressed by expeller rather than refined. It is made by Shree Hari Agro Industries Ltd. at Mansar Khedi and sold direct at sutrindia.com.

Cold pressing crushes the seed mechanically at low temperature. Nothing is bleached, nothing is deodorised, and no solvent touches the oil — which is why a cold-pressed groundnut oil still smells of groundnut and a cold-pressed mustard oil still bites.

The trade-off is honest: cold-pressed oils have a shorter shelf life, a lower smoke point and a stronger flavour than their refined equivalents. That is the point of them, and it is why they are used differently in the kitchen.

Mustard oil pressed this way is what is traditionally called kachchi ghani. Sutr extends the same method across six more oilseeds, pressed at the Group’s own plant rather than bought in.

The brand also sells vanaspati ghee, in 15 kg tins. It is not a cold-pressed product and is not sold as one — it sits alongside the pressed oils rather than within them.

About Sutr

Who makes Sutr oil?
Sutr is produced by Shree Hari Agro Industries Ltd., Mansar Khedi, a Data Group company. Data Group has pressed edible oil in Rajasthan since 1978.
Where is Sutr made?
Shree Hari Agro Industries Ltd., Mansar Khedi. Data Group's edible oil is pressed, refined and packed at its own plants in Rajasthan — at Khairthal, at Mansar Khedi in Jaipur district, and at Alwar.
What does cold-pressed mean?
Cold pressing crushes the seed mechanically at low temperature, without solvent, bleaching or deodorising. The oil keeps the colour, aroma and flavour of the seed. It is the same method traditionally called kachchi ghani when applied to mustard.
Which oils does Sutr cover?
Seven: cold-pressed mustard, groundnut, sesame, coconut, flaxseed, kalonji and almond oil. All are pressed by Shree Hari Agro Industries Ltd. at Mansar Khedi in Jaipur district.
Where can I buy Sutr oil?
Direct from sutrindia.com, the brand’s own shop. Delivery is free on orders above ₹750.
Is cold-pressed oil better than refined oil?
It is different, not simply better. Cold-pressed oils keep more of the seed’s flavour and aroma, but they have a shorter shelf life and a lower smoke point than refined oils. Refined oils are more neutral and more heat-stable. Which suits depends on how you are cooking.
